Description

On the 25th of March 2023 the “Il Pertini” Cultural Center of the Municipality of Cinisello Balsamo hosted the inauguration of the Travelling Exhibition: “Val.UE.s: a Journey around Discrimination and EU Values”, part of the outcomes of our Project Val.UE.s. – Valorising Lives and Understanding European (hi)stories, co-funded by the European Union under the CERV (Remembrance) programme

The exhibition consists of a series of photographic panels on the topic of discrimination in European history. The exhibition itinerary is made of images, texts, and extracts from the video-interviews to Shoah survivors and people who have experienced ethnic, social, and religious discriminations collected as part of the project activities. These materials were collected by all the project partners, as weel as High school students from the Casiraghi High School of Cinisello Balsamo took active part in the selection of the photographs for the exhibition and in the elaboration of the text captions. The materials were edited by the European Projects Department of the Municipality of Cinisello Balsamo in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Photography of Cinisello Balsamo, with whom curated the exhibition.

The exhibition deals with the topic of discrimination from a historical and contemporary perspective in order to foster a common reflection on the journey undertaken by European generations to overcome discrimination and affirm the values of freedom and equality on which the EU is founded. For this purpose, the text captions for the panels are translated into English as well as in into all the national languages of the project partners.

At the opening, after an official speech given by the representatives of the Municipality of Cinisello Balsamo, the high school students who were in the project activities illustrated the rationale of the exhibition and explained what inspired them to select the exhibition items. The opening was attended by representative of the other project's partners, and by secondary and high school teachers that showed great interest in the topic of the project and expressed their intention to take their students to the exhibition during school visits.

After the inauguration in Cinisello Balsamo, the Val.UE.s Travelling Exhibition continued its journey to the other cities of the partnership: Budapest, Rome, Bucharest, and Kaunas. The exhibitions are hosted on the premises of the project partners’ universities. The openings were attended by Bachelor’s and Master’s students as well as PhD candidates, lecturers, professors and by individuals interested in the Exhibition’s subjects, all of whom had the opportunity to get acquainted with the Project Val.UE.s.
